From my young start in banking, quickly fast-tracked and well on my way up the Corporate ladder, I decided to take my first leap of faith. At 30 years old and solidly employed with my wife expecting our first child, I bought a bankrupt bike store in November… Knowing nothing about bikes, I quickly grew it into one of Canada’s most successful bicycle stores. For me, it wasn’t about bikes, it was about impacting people's lives and encouraging them into a healthy lifestyle. Yet, despite being hugely successful, the model was flawed, so at 40, I lost everything... Yes, humbling is an understatement and yet, a profound experience that can never be taken away from me.
Having no idea what was next, my next leap involved joining a local Realtor, to help her grow her business and boy, did we ever! Her business exploded, however, once again I knew there was a better way…Less transactional - More Relational! Right, with the right coaching, I was confident I could work a successful formula while still changing people's lives for the better. So once again, I jumped, only this time, it was on my own. Opening my own brokerage, I was now firing on all cylinders...Oh, wait! I couldn’t keep up. Tireless energy, enthusiasm and unrelenting tenacity still fuels me to this day, however, it just wasn’t enough.
On the fateful day of September 27th, 2019, my life altering bike accident was a very stern message from the universe, something had to change. Faced with yet another decision, I took my last and most important leap of faith. It was time to create a Team, BUT, not an ordinary real estate Team. Because, that too is a flawed business model. Leaders recruit the best, train them, help make them successful, only to lose them when these stars “feel” they’ve outgrown the Team... No, I wanted to attract a “select few”, who shared the same core values and vision I did. The few who appreciate the way I treat my clients, constantly and selflessly giving of oneself. Yes! If I could mentor them through a guided and inspired approach, while encouraging the growth of their "own" business, there would be no reason for them to leave.
Now in my 20th year of selling real estate and closing in on 60 years old, my purpose is to continue to empower others as others have empowered me. It’s my time to give back. In an age where customer service is arguably at its worst, the Team at LaFontaine & Co are a complete and proper representation of everything that is good in our industry. With integrity and gratitude at the forefront of everything we do, we will impact and improve the lives and communities of those we serve.
